  | | What we are | | | Desert Winds High School is the Intervention/Retention school for the Casa Grande Union High School District in Casa Grande, AZ. Our high school requires 20 credits to graduate in the following areas: We offer a block scheduling program that allows students to have more quality and quantity time to complete their academic standards provided by the Arizona Department of Education. All teachers are certified through the Arizona Department of Education and are considered Highly Qualified to teach in their respective areas of expertise. | | | Program Highlights | | | - School hours are from 3:15-9:00 PM –offering students an alternative if students have to work during the day, cannot wake up in the mornings, or possibly have child care issues
- Days of the week are Monday-Thursday-offering students an alternative to coming 5 days a week
- Fridays are offered to all students to come in for one-on-one tutoring all day, home bound instruction, community based instruction if students cannot come to our campus, testing, to name a few of the advantages for students
- Fridays are also a time for our teachers to meet and have Student Study Team sessions whereby we have a list of students that we will discuss in terms of academic performance, behavioral needs, special services or programs
- Academics are not based on seat time rather that students must meet or exceed all academic standards for all course work requirements. This allows students to work on a self-paced program that is conducive to their regiment
- We have 3 concentrated periods each day for 105 minutes
- We expect the integrity of each classroom to be adhered to, therefore, any infractions, however small, are sent to the office so we can intervene and consult with parent and student
- Before any enrollment takes place the parent and student MUST participate in an extensive intake process where each family is outlined with a familial plan that will help student and family be successful not only in school but at home
- Parents MUST come in every 2 weeks for progress reports whereas parents come in and go to each of their child’s classroom for a productive progress report session with the child’s teachers, then parents and students come back to review the reports with administration
- Our guidance department meets with students upon completion of credit for each course and student is then enrolled in new course to continue the success of their academic rigor
- AIMS testing is a priority at our school in terms of preparing each of our students for the rigor set by the Arizona Department of Education and NCLB, as we teach
